Basic notions - The capo

The capo is a movable bridge, a kind of small press that is placed transversely across the strings, compressing them in a particular fret.

It has two main uses: to raise the pitch of the guitar and facilitate the implementation of difficult chords. In the first case can be for accompany melody or a singer (which may be oneself) for to transpose the tonality with the guitar tone that plays the melody.

The second way to use it has the disadvantage of reducing the sound spectrum of the guitar, especially when it rises several tones, ie, several frets. However, it is a solution for those who, by the formation of his hand, or simply for a lack of skill, have great difficulty to make theese chords. Chords such as B flat major, B flat minor, F major, etc. require do the bar with the index finger of his left hand. This difficulty can be obviated with the use of capo.

For example, F major barre should be formed on the first fret, and although it is not so difficult to make the only chord, the difficulty comes when in an accompaniment you have to change chord without missing a beat. If you use a capo all the fingers are free for to shape notes of the chord.
